(Vancouver, B.C.) November 15, 2017 – Vancouver Film School announced an important new scholarship today that will put Canadian First Nations acting students at the center of the school’s current The Search Tour. The new Indigenous Ambassador Scholarship for the Acting for Film + Television program was created by VFS to ensure that some of the most talented prospective First Nations students have the opportunity to study Acting for Film + Television. VFS is seeking candidates through a our-city tour across Canada with special Live-Audition opportunities to seek out the most deserving indigenous student applicants.

The Vancouver Film School delegation of James Griffin, Grace Dove, Christopher Bennett, and Claudia Casper arrive on Thursday, November 23rd where they plan to meet with local dignitaries, community leaders and student youth.

On Saturday, November 25th, hopeful actors from Iqaluit will have a special live-audition opportunity in front of James Griffin, Grace Dove and VFS Executive Producer, Christopher Ian Bennett. They will learn that same day if they have been accepted into the VFS Acting for Film + Television Program, and will be given the chance to apply to win the National Scholarship Prize as well.

At 6pm, VFS is hosting a free open-house information session to the entire community at the Forbisher Inn (Room: Koojesse N) where James Griffin will be on hand to personally speak with all guests and deliver an important talk about the new creative economy and what it could mean for students from Nunavut.

Further, this will mark the school’s first official visit to Nunavut as part of the 30th Anniversary “Search Tour”, seeking out the most creative prospective students looking to build a career in the new global creative economy.

Former VFS Acting for Film + Television graduate Grace Dove will serve as this year’s Alumni Ambassador for the new scholarship. Featured opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in The Revenant, Grace will also support a 4-city Live Audition Tour as a Panel Judge, seeking to find talented new First Nations acting students who want to study at VFS.

"I believe truth is in nature. No people in Canada are closer to nature than our first people. Whatever VFS may be able to bring to our national indigenous community, it is an absolute certainty that the best stories come from a place of truth. I wanted to come to Nunavut personally to meet any prospective student who may ever have dreamed of a career as a creative storyteller. I can’t tell you how excited I am to be making this trip."
- James Griffin, Founder & Owner – Vancouver Film School

"This initiative to support Indigenous youth to pursue a career in acting is a step in the right direction in diversifying the industry. These scholarships will make training at VFS more accessible and encourage Indigenous student success. Our time has arrived for Indigenous artists to lead the way. The future will be filled with our people and our stories."
- Grace Dove, Canadian Indigenous Actor and VFS Acting for Film + Television Graduate
